The PL- mode stands for Payload, and can have derivatives of Payload race (PLR) or an attack and defend variant (PL). The objective is to escort your teams cart to the enemy base for PLR and for red team (the attackers) in PL, whilst for the blue team in PL it is to prevent the cart from reaching the end of the track.
PL maps are usually asymmetrical, with changing map design the further the attackers are able to push the cart. Payload carts are shown by two adminium blocks at the base, followed by two of the colour of the team who uses that cart, followed by two TNTs. The middle is also surrounded by halfslabs. In order to push the payload cart, you need to be standing within one block around it, or on the stairs, and it will be pushed forwards one block every second. As defenders you are able to prevent the enemy team from pushing their cart by standing in this same zone. PLR maps are, however, symmetrical, and both team carts will usually pass by each other in the duration of the game. Both teams are able to prevent the other team from pushing the cart, and both teams need to push their cart to the end of the track in order to win.
These games last for a variable amount of time, depending on how large the map is, or to balance PL maps out and give both teams equal opportunities. The winner of PLR maps is determined by the first team to push the cart to the end of the track, and if that isn't reached, the team which has the most progress. In PL maps, red team can only be the winner if they push the cart to the end of the track, and blue team can only win if they are able to prevent that from happening until the end of the round.
